Reebok:

Reebok wanted to mark the opening of football season by sending their collectors edition caps to some very famous celebrities.sorry, we can't tell you which famous people, but you would know all of them. This one started as a meeting and a few sketches. Numerous options and ideas were thrown out and prototyped. The final box was a solid walnut box, with the Reebok crest screen printed on the top, and base. On the front face of the box top, a recessed area was laser engraved to accept a brass plaque that was individually engraved with the recipient's name. We also designed and fabricated a polished acrylic support to hold the cap. But there was still one dilemma. How to close the box in an elegant and unobtrusive was while making it easy for the recipient to open it. After much experimentation in the "lab", we devised a system using concealed rare earth magnets (really strong magnets) drilled from beneath and hidden from view to connect the top to the bottom. A simple push of the thumb in the provided cutout separated the two and revealed the gift inside. One unexpected snag we encountered was the fact that the magnets could not be shipped using air freight, because their intense magnetic field would interfere with the navigation equipment on the plane! We shipped 50 of these magnificent boxes per month, each time personalizing the boxes for the lucky celebrities who would receive them.
