Independent Fabrication is a creative manufacturer of high end, one off custom bikes. Their work is unique so it only should follow that their corporate catalog also be unique. To begin with, the size of the piece is immediately noticeable as it matches that of the old vinyl LP records. Fittingly, the catalog fits into an authentic LP sleeve. With this catalog, Atlas saw an opportunity to utilize a relatively new printing process...UV litho.

UV litho employs inks that dry by exposure to high intensity UV lights instead of by normal oxidation. The result is an unusually high ink holdout on the surface of the sheet as well as colors that truly POP. In addition, we were able to employ a "gloss/back" effect that combines dull varnish and spot UV to create a striking contrast between dull and gloss without the usual trap lines associated with conventional varnishes.

Independent chose to highlight each bike frame on a page so that it looked like it was painted with clear lacquer. As the user plays light across the sheet, the images of the bike frames literally flash off the sheet. The same effect was used to highlight the keys on the outer sleeve. In the end, it is one of our proudest projects and we hope that it inspires others to use this unique technology.
